How they differ
The key difference between LASIK and PRK comes down to how the surgeon accesses the corneal tissue that needs reshaping.
LASIK involves creating a thin, hinged flap in the outer layer of the cornea. The flap is gently lifted, the laser reshapes the tissue underneath, and the flap is repositioned — acting like a natural bandage. PRK takes a different approach: instead of creating a flap, the surgeon removes the thin outer layer of the cornea (the epithelium), which naturally regenerates over several days.
